• Kathak is a performing art. Hence, the most obvious career that one can in Kathak is that of a performer. Of course, when I say the most obvious, I don’t mean the easiest. Once you start learning Kathak from your Guru and learn to a certain level, you can get the opportunity to perform at various functions. These performances will mostly start as group performances which, with more practice and expertise, will lead to duet and solo performances. In India and all around the world Kathak dancers are needed for various cultural programs and you could certainly be one of them.
• You can also become a choreographer. This will help you use your creativity in a beautiful way and choreograph wonderful dance sequences. If you are able to learn some other dance forms along with Kathak, you can choreograph dances with a combination of different dance forms. Alternatively, you can work in collaboration with different artists to do so.
• You can even become a teacher and promote and teach Kathak in India and across the world. There are many people who are curious to learn more about the arts and culture of India, and you can use your skill to educate people. One such example is Svetlana Tulasi who promotes Kathak in Russia.
